Shinra Bansho Man is a role-playing video game developed by Tecmo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), released in Japan in 1992. It was created as a spiritual successor to Tecmo's earlier RPG, Silver Surfer. The game is known for its surreal, dreamlike qualities and its unconventional storyline that revolves around the protagonist's journey through a mystical world to find the titular Shinra Bansho, a powerful artifact. Along the way, the player must gather a party of adventurers and battle a variety of strange monsters and enemies using turn-based combat.
Shinra Bansho Man was notable at the time of its release for pushing the boundaries of what was possible on the NES hardware, with impressive graphics and a large game world. It also featured a unique "soul collecting" mechanic in which defeated enemies dropped "souls" that could be used to power up the player's party members.
The game was not released outside of Japan, and as a result, remained largely unknown to Western audiences until fan translations began to circulate online in the 2000s. Despite its cult following among RPG enthusiasts, the game has not received any official remakes or sequels.
